"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word." — Psalm 119:9 |
What is F.L.Y.?
Fun Lovin' Youth, or F.L.Y. as we say, is an interactive group for middle school boys including young teens. The primary goal of F.L.Y is to foster positive and meaningful relationships. Activities are designed to display quality leadership roles which encourage cooperation and respect for all participants. Social games, skills learning activities, and the major sports are all used to create an environment for learning cooperation. Led by Bolivar Police Officer John Henry, “tying flies” is a regular activity for the F.L.Y. boys. Officer Henry is assisted by other adults who have statewide recognition in this unique craft.
How does it work?
F.L.Y. meets each Wednesday immediately after school until 5 pm at the IM Center. Leadership is provided by SBU students. These young men gather the boys for outdoor activities or use the IM Center as weather dictates. Occasionally, a brief discussion or presentation of an appropriate junior high boys' topic will be addressed. This could include honesty, peer pressure issues or authority figures taught in a Biblical perspective. A good hearty snack is usually the grande finale of F.L.Y.

FLY to me is exactly what the initials stand for — Fun Lovin' Youth. We create a positive environment for the youth so they can have a good time. I especially treasure the relationships that have been built because of this organization.
