A meaningful prayer life or lack of it depends on one's knowing of God. God is the most relational person alive. He loves to talk with His children. You can easily determine the depth of any family's relationship by observing the effectiveness of its parent-child communication. Prayer with God is like a family conference. Nothing honors God more or pleases Him greater than heartfelt, honest communications.

As in family life where there is nothing better with which to achieve success than good lines of communication; with God, effective prayer is everything. Children listen and talk to their parents because they love them, respect their opinion, desire to please them and realize they have more authority. Parents talk and listen to their children because they love them, want to understand their intentions, desire to serve their best interest and realize they have a grave responsibility to use their authority to protect and to guide. We are in a similar relationship to God. Only He is perfectly willing to always act on our best behalf.

Most of us fail to pray because we have greatly underestimated the depth of the relationship God desires to have with us. God is not pushy or demanding. God wants people, whom He created in His very own likeness, to want Him. God our Father loves to hear the voice of His children call upon His almighty power.
